On The Mark -- An Unscientific Study

I've noticed an interesting phenomenon over the past few weeks. I don't think it's my imagination, although The Misanthrope might disagree with me if he remembers our high school days, so long ago, when we would be sitting in the stands at a basketball game and I would say that a particular cheerleader is checking me out, and he would just chuckle at my fantasy world.

Anyway, I have a fairly easy drive to work, mostly through local neighborhoods and a canyon road. Lately, if I don't have a client meeting, I've been driving my pickup truck to my office.

What I've noticed is that when I drive my truck, women walking or jogging in the neighborhoods have a tendency to check out who's driving the truck. Granted, it's only a glance, and then that's enough for them. But when I drive my Infiniti Q45 I rarely see any ladies checking to see who's driving.

So ladies...is it just me, or does seeing a pickup truck invite curiosity?

Just curious.

My wife has been suggesting that my next vehicle should be a truck... and now I am starting to figure out why. Of course, she has made it clear that it needs to be big enough for me and our three little girls... but then again, I've noticed that the "dad with three little girls" gets a lot of looks from the ladies, too. More than I get when I'm alone, that's for sure (that latter number being close to zero).

yup! True. Sadly.. lol

Nice cars are a guy thing, I really thing women like the possibility of meeting a 'real man' driving a truck.. I tend to associate 'nice' cars with balding middle-aged white males. Sorry! You asked for opinions.. ;-)

Trucks go with guys with a bit more 'male energy'.. We women think along the lines of 'penis substitute' especially if said nice car is driven by a guy in a suit.. It's not even conscious, I'm sure. Throw some power tools in the back, and you've got it.. EVEN in LA. Women are animals.

(power tools in back of truck, not nice car)

Of course women look at you B2, you are totally hot. And, yes, i do think you would look cute driving a truck.

Thank goodness chandira doesn't speak for every woman out there. Give me a man in a nice suit in a nice car anyday. Most times when I see a man in a truck, (especially small men in BIG trucks) I usually come to the conclusion this truck is for the sole purpose of bring his ego up a notch.

Well, you come from a state that needs trucks, Calif. doesn't. If you are driving a truck here, you are showing off.Sorry, I'm not for the man showing off, I'm for the REAL MAN , the one that shows he does not need to be mucho!!

Well, now, if you feel that you need a truck to more manly, you might want to consider doing the things that actually require you to have a truck with power tools. Can you fix that leaky drain? Can you patch that roof on the widows east slope? If you can't, then stop thinking that getting a truck will solve your problems. You heard it from two ladies so far, that they want a hero man. You're not much of a hero just because your turck can pull her vehicle out of the mud, but rather if you actually pull her car out of the mud. If you don't know how to do any of these things, thats fine, just be a hero in some other way. If you get out of your Beemer and it proudly reads "Big Brothers Big Sisters" on your shirt, you will get just as many looks.

Okay, I stumbled on this argument by accident but feel compelled to weigh in. I too am from Alberta (currently) although I hail from Montreal and Toronto originally. In both those cities it is UNCOOL to have a car of any kind. But Calgary is such a car-based culture, and more than that, a big #$#!!#$ truck-based culture, and to be perfectly frank, if I see someone driving a big shiny truck or SUV I think, "Poser." I think Hummers should be illegal. Give me a guy who drives a beat-up fuel efficient 1991 Honda Civic anyday. Seriously. That's a guy who can haul stuff, but who also CARES about things - like not wasting money on a gas guzzling armoured tank. And cares about the future of the planet - if you like a guy who likes kids, you gotta like a guy who is thinking of what the world is going to be like for his kids. I'm not even a big eco-freak, but this resonates with me.

Even better, I check out a guy who is on foot, cause he's probably in shape, and doesn't live in the suburbs. He's probably cool.
