Justice Served

Jails and prisons are designed to break human beings, to convert the population into specimens in a zoo—obedient to our keepers, but dangerous to each other.
Angela Davis, civil rights activist, educator, and writer

I am very pleased that Zacarias Moussaoui did not get the death penalty, not because I am against the death penalty in most cases, but because he had little to nothing to do with 9/11 and, most importantly, he wanted the death penalty.

Living in a cage will be far more punishing than allowing him to escape into nothing believing he will be honored as a martyr. He is a sleazy dirt bag that deserves the abuse he will receive in prison, even if it's only mental abuse from having to live with himself the rest of his natural days. Hell, we should secretly send him off to our torture camps in Cuba and throughout Europe for all I care about him.

The Decider-in-chief expressed disappointment at the verdict because he wanted a scapegoat he could point to that was executed for 9/11 because the White House gang has failed miserably in its war against terrorism.

I don't know that I agree that the admin has failed in the WOT. It is a battle that will go on for decades.

But I am happy that the man is going to be locked in a cage- no martyrdom for him.

Let me say that the white house gang is failing, they haven't completely failed yet, we still have another two years with the gang that can't think straight. They have made Iraq a breeding ground for terrorists and have increased the hatred for the U.S. tenfold. If the U.S. didn't go into Iraq and had focused solely on the WOT, we might have had the support of countrymen to turn Bin Laden in.

I am not a fan of the admin. I think that they have made a mess, but our opinions do diverge in a couple of areas.

Iraq wasn't a hotbed of love for the US. Beyond that there is an ideological battle that predates Bush and company, with the point being that I think that there are many who hated the US before they came into power.

I haven't had faith in most of Europe or the UN for years. They pay lip service to problems and do little to nothing unless forced into action.

The people who are helping OBL to hide are not and likely have never been our friends.

In the meantime I have low expectations for domestic improvement because I see terrible leadership in both parties.

Well, there is one area we agree upon and that is there is poor leadership in both parties.

Hey Jack's Shack, no one is hiding OBL. He needed renal dialysis which means he was in the end stage of renal failure. His kidneys had basically shut down. Dialysis machines need electricity, clean water, and a sterile setting. When you're running from cave to cave, you are lacking those requirements. Without his dialysis machine the longest he would have lasted is a week. But I am glad Moussaoui didn't get the death penalty.

I have to confess I didn't read the rest of the post after I saw you quoting Angela Davis as a "civil rights activist."

She was active in the Black Panthers, helping with their violent thuggery. She was a member of the Communist Party, and even ran as the Communist Party's candidate for VP in 1980 and 1984.

Attila, I may not be in agreement with everything Davis stands for, but she had a quote that was apropos to my post, but most importantly, she was tried and acquitted of all charges against her.

I can't ever pass up anything written about the Black Panthers without saying, "I'm sorry I ruined your Black Panther party."

Moving on now . . .

I personally think that the death penalty should only be reserved for stone-cold killers. I didn't think Andrea Yates deserved the death penalty either.

The more I hear about the justice system and jails in general, the more I wonder about how much of a punishment going there really is.

For those folks that don't know the other side of the coin on the Black Panthers:

They fed breakfast each and every morning to hundreds and hundreds of bay area school children, they ran after school programs and they looked in on the elderly..they are only spoken of in the negative sense when they did a helluva lot of good too. They fed poor children before the government did and that says volumes about their commitment to their neighborhoods.

And yes, Angela wasn't convicted..and inspite of rhetoric to the contrary she was a civil rights activist.
