Traveling Luggage

All the modern inconveniences
Mark Twain (1835–1910), writer

Flight canceled, pulled aside for an even more moronic security search, amazed at how dumb someone can be and still hold a job (I’ll leave the obvious joke about Bush for someone else), well just wait, things are getting worse, according to an article in the Washington Post:

More than 1 million pieces of luggage were lost, damaged, delayed or pilfered by U.S. airlines from May to July, according to data from the Bureau of Transportation Statistics. June and July ranked among the 20 worst months for mishandled baggage in 20 years.

Photo below shows all the lost baggage winging its way cross country to an unscheduled destination. click on photo for a better view
Someone knows where you luggage is, unfortunately not you.

I'm back to traveling with a duffel bag and minimal toiletries again. It's not worth the hassle to check baggage anymore. (Heck, it's almost not worth the hassle to travel at all.)

Not worth it by plane, anyway average jane. It would have to be an emergency to get me on a plane now, and I refuse to check a bag or fly with a connection now--it's nonstop or nothing, because I refuse to sleep in an airport terminal because the airline overbooked my connection.

I'm glad Jack mentioned it. Unclaimed Baggage is one of the oddest places I've been. Not that north central Alabama isn't odd as is, but add the sum total of lost luggage and you've just got odd on a stick. Compelling in the same way estate sales can be. A little less morbid, but only a little.

On the Mark says: A colleague recently flew from Atlanta to Buffalo. There were no connections. He got there plenty early and the plane sat at the gate for some time. His luggage wound up in Kansas City or someplace like that. As much as I travel, I have never had any luggage lost. However, I have had a few bags shredded over the years.

I try to limit my baggage to carry on stuff.

Jack,Jane, I have too much to deal with carry on.

Brian, I am with you; I hate to fly anywhere. I'd much rather drive, heck maybe even take a train.

Sporks, I, thankfully, have never had a reason to visit such an area regarding baggage or as it relates to the state.

Jack, You can always be counted on.

I had one disappear on the way to Hawaii once, that wasn't fun, but it was on the next plane, thankfully, and the airline (Hawaiian) delivered it to where I was, with a $10 voucher for a meal or something. Fly to Hawaii, they're nice. ;-)

I even carried on, when I went to England for 3 weeks last time for that reason. It's amazing how few things you need on vacation.

Fingers and toes are good for that. ;)

I know I'm tempting fate ... but I've probably logged half a million miles and I've yet to lose a bag!

(Fingers crossed.)
