Back to Work

Policemen so cherish their status as keepers of the peace and protectors of the public that they have occasionally been known to beat to death those citizens or groups who question that status.
David Mamet, playwright

To welcome me back to work the LAPD set a speed trap that I fell right into. What better way end the rest and relaxation of a vacation, but to have a our over taxed police force set speed trips for the corporate folks going to work. Then in the afternoon, they wait outside the building writing jaywalking tickets. I love our men and women in blue. Gang problems be damned.

My favorite new television is "Saving Grace" with Holly Hunter. It is just a smart fun show. "The Closer" that follows is less so for me, but wife loves it. Now I can get back to my book.

Ha. Yes. I almost got a jaywalking ticket last summer. Never mind the crackheads and dealers and armed robbers, let's give tickets to shoppers.

Our guys excuse? Their chief had run over a pedestrian a week ago. So that was the fault of all pedestrians somehow, I guess..

That is certainly not the way to say welcome back.

Jaywalking tickets? The L.A.P.D. wouldn't last 5 minutes in my part of the world. Some little old lady with a rolling walker would knock some guy in blue flat on his back and keep on crossing.

Alice, Oh yes, jaywalking tickets are a nice revenue enhancer. I wish that lady with the walker would come out here and smack a few cops while writing jaywalking tickets or setting silly speed traps.
